Frederick the Great ( 24 January 1712 – 17 August 1786 ) really liked to party. His dinnerparties were legendary. The tables were laden with the finest food and drinks. And Frederick thought it was important you really enjoyed your meal. No holding back. Did you know that the guests were weighed before and after dinner? And anyone who did not gain weight was excluded from the next dinnerparty. No problem. There was more than enough to eat. So you would think. However there were many tables and many guests and by the time the last guests had received their food chances were that Frederick had already had enough. And of course when your host had eaten his fill, dinner was over. Better to stay close to the elector, next time…
