Everything went smoothly. I got to Hannover in time and I was perfectly happy in my first class seat on my way to Leipzig. People had warned me German trains never arrive or leave in time and they were right. A 15 minute delay is quite normal. Luckily I had almost fifty minutes before my connecting train left in Leipzig. So I was not worried about the twenty minutes I lost because of the delay. I even had time to run to the bookstore and buy a nice hardcover notebook.
The train was already waiting when I got back and I found myself a nice seat with a table. ‘Do you know you are in first class?’, the train inspector asked me. ‘Of course I did. I was here totally on purpose.’ ‘Just asking’, she said with a big smile. ‘Would I mind giving up my seat for a blind man with a dog?’ I would not have minded, but the guy at the next table was a researcher for the railway company and willingly gave his seat to the man, his dog and a companion.
I enjoyed the rest of the ride. The weather was great and in no time I had my first glimpse of Dresden. Such a beautiful city. I felt truly blessed.
